“First Person Narratives and Stories of Oppression”
Contact: Taylor Silvestri, firstname.lastname@example.org>
Where and when: Hauke Boardroom (next to Jazzman’s), 3:30 p.m.-5 p.m.
We believe people’s stories every day. From a coworker’s story about waiting ten minutes at a red light, to a sibling’s recalling of a “literally” impossible test question. Yet too often when it comes to stories of oppression, we devalue those first-person descriptions of events, especially when uttered from the mouths of the oppressed. We will examine this phenomenon through writing exercises and conversation with guest host, Core professor Mike Kelly (at left).
