February 7 — film, “The First Grader”

Where and When: Alumni Auditorium, 7 p.m., FREE

Here are some great course connections to this film.

Justine Gerns and Jason Borges will be hosting a screening of The First Grader. The film is based on the true story of Kimani Maruge, a Kenyan man who enrolled in elementary education at the age of 84 after the Kenyan government announced universal and free elementary education in 2003.  The film had a limited theatrical run which sadly did not include our local theatres.  We’re excited to bring this powerful story to campus.  Here’s the trailer:

We hope that you can join us!  If any faculty wish to offer extra-credit to their students who attend, Jason will offer to take attendance.
