Teachable Events in the spring 2013 semester

Welcome back. Herewith, a round of upcoming teachable events to kick off the spring semester.

If you have an event that you’d like to promote through the Teachable Events Committee site, please send it along to us. The site is updated weekly, sometimes more frequently, with a new email dispatch circulating each Monday morning.

What qualifies as a teachable event?

* The event could be experienced as an extension of classroom learning.
* The event is open to all Champlain College students. (It could also be open to the public, but this is not a criterion.)
* The event is free or moderately priced for a budget-conscious student.

Feel free to send with your event information any other content that you would like me to post to the Teachable Events site, such as photographs, video clips, links, and so forth.

N E W   F E A T U R E :   T H I R D   P L A N E T   U P D A T E :
This week on Third Planet: As many of you know, a tragic massacre on Dec. 14 in Newtown, Conn., has given new intensity to the ongoing debate about gun control and the right to bear arms in the United States. Because this debate rarely takes place with any global perspective, we decided to ask Third Planet members what they think about guns, gun ownership, and gun violence. We’ve had some interesting comments already, so please feel free to join in and encourage your students. And remember: we want to know what topics you’d like to discuss this coming semester! Use the ‘Suggest A Topic’ box on the left!
